​Join us for a series of Métis jigging workshops featuring Red River jigging and Métis social dancing! No prior dance experience is necessary. There are three workshop sessions culminating in a showcase at the TYRMC Louis Riel Day event. Sessions will feature live fiddle music.

SIGN-UP EARLY - There are 25 spaces available for each workshop with priority given to MNO Citizens of the TYRMC. 

Here’s what you’ll learn:

Workshop 1 – Saturday, October 19th – (noon to 3:30 pm) 
Facilitated by Ginny Gonneau 
-     Introduction to the history of Métis jigging and Métis social dances
-     Red River Jig
-     Orange Blossom Special

Workshop 2 – Saturday, October 26th (3 pm to 4:30 pm)
Facilitated by Megan Southwell & Kyle Burton

-     Heel and Toe Polka
-     Seven Step
-     Sash Dance
-     Butterfly Dance

​Workshop 3 – Saturday, November 2nd (3 pm to 4:30 pm)
Facilitated by Megan Southwell & Kyle Burton
-     Rabbit Dance
-     Drops of Brandy
-     St. Anne’s Reel

Showcase at TYRMC Louis Riel Day Event  – Saturday, November 16th (11 am to 3 pm)
Showcase all dances with the TYRMC community,

All workshops will be held at the Waterfront Neighbourhood Centre, 627 Queens Quay W, Toronto. The showcase will be held at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto, 16 Spadina Rd, Toronto. Those under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.
